Guenter Kochendoerfer: Sprachverarbeitung bei Alzheimer-Demenz: Hypothesenbildung in neuronalen Modellen [Language processing and Alzheimer's disease. Hypotheses from neural models]. Tuebingen: Narr 1998. This book focuses on a very particular but highly plausible thesis concerning the reason for pathological phenomena observable in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease. The underestimated fact that in Alzheimer's disease patients a reduced alpha-rhythm frequency in the EEG can be observed, is directly related to numerous linguistic symptoms and memory deficits. Therefore the reduction in alpha-frequency gives us deeper insight into the causes of an Alzheimer's disease and lets us explain the basic principle that causes these drastic deficits. Methodolocically, neural models (simulations) of linguistic processes are the centre of the argumentation. The hypotheses worked out by the author in several earlier works are indirectly proven to be correct. The results in this publication support and are supported by several concepts underlying the current develpment of medicals for the Alzheimer's disease. |
